Can clipper blades be sharpened?

Professional blades can be, and services exist — on household clippers the replacement blade usually costs less than the sharpening, when a replacement is published at all.

The arithmetic decides it. A professional blade is a substantial part with a published compatibility list; a household clipper blade is often not sold separately.

Where a replacement exists, the maker’s list is where to start. The Panasonic Pro X blade at $70 names the fifteen clipper references it fits, by number — that is a part you can buy with confidence, and it is the only clipper blade on this site that publishes a price.

Where none exists, the practical answer is that the clipper is the consumable — which is worth knowing when comparing a $90 machine with a $200 one.

Before either, exhaust the free options: clean, oil, realign, reseat the guard. Those four fix most clippers that appear to need a blade — and the oil is $6, which is the whole of what the first two cost. See oil, clean or replace.

Check your own manual before you follow anything here. Temperatures, water ratings and supply voltages differ from model to model, and the maker’s own figures take precedence over anything written on this site.
