The best guide combs and clipper guards for 2026

The guard, not the clipper, decides the length of a haircut — and a guard that unclips mid-pass decides it badly. Three things separate sets: the lengths covered and the step between them, the fit (guards are not universal, they attach to a blade profile and a family of machines), and how they latch. Marking matters more than it sounds: a set numbered in relief survives a dishwasher, a set printed in ink does not, and an unreadable guard is an unusable one. We state which clipper families each set is made for, because “universal” in a listing usually means “fits one popular brand”.
