A stubble held at one setting usually needs redoing every two or three days; a longer beard needs shaping less often but a neckline more often than the beard itself.
Growth rates vary between people, but the usual figure is about 0.3 to 0.5 mm (0.01 to 0.02 in) a day, which is what the intervals below are built on.
What is predictable is which parts show first. A neckline grows out of shape faster than the beard does, because a shaved edge fills in quickly and the boundary moves. The cheeks are the second, for the same reason.
The length itself changes slowly by comparison — at 0.3 to 0.5 mm (0.01 to 0.02 in) a day, a millimeter takes two or three days.
Practically, many people re-run the neckline and cheek lines twice as often as they re-run the whole beard. That takes two minutes with the guards off, and it is what keeps a beard looking maintained between full trims.
