Clean and oil it before putting it away, not just before using it — oil left on the teeth is what prevents corrosion during the months in between.
An unused tool degrades differently from a used one. Hair left behind the teeth holds moisture, and an unoiled steel blade in a bathroom drawer can corrode.
The routine before storage: brush out thoroughly, oil the teeth, run the machine briefly, wipe the excess, and store dry with the guard off or a blade guard fitted.
Syprin states its oil prevents rust as well as reducing friction, which is the property that matters here rather than the friction one.
Two more points for infrequent use. Lithium batteries lose capacity when stored flat, so a partial charge is better than none. And check the alignment before the first cut after a long gap — a blade that has been knocked in a drawer is the second free fix on the list.
Check your own manual before you follow anything here. Temperatures, water ratings and supply voltages differ from model to model, and the maker’s own figures take precedence over anything written on this site.
