Panasonic ES-RT37 review

A three-blade foil shaver with arc-shaped foils shaped for under the chin, a pop-up trimmer carrying thirty blades of its own, an hour to charge for fifty-four minutes of use, and a head that rinses under running water.

Where it leaves us The entry Panasonic, with its battery published and its head rinsable. Nothing hidden.

A three-blade system behind arc-shaped foils that Panasonic states are shaped to keep contact under the chin. The pop-up trimmer is not an afterthought — the company gives it thirty blades and a multi-directional head of its own.

The numbers are all published, which is not the norm in this category: one hour to charge, fifty-four minutes of use, washable under running water.

Four things come in the box: the shaver, a charging cable, a cleaning brush and a cap. No stand and no case, which is what the price reflects.

On a shelf where the battery is the field most often left blank, this is the only one of the four shavers that fills both halves of it: fifty-four minutes of use, one hour to charge. The ES-LV67 gives the charge time and not the runtime. The ES-ALT4B gives neither. The Braun gives forty-five minutes and no charge time. Three blades against the LV67’s five is the specification you give up here, and $120 against $185 is what you keep — and this is one of only two foil shavers on the shelf with a live offer on amazon.com at all. The ES-LV67 and ES-ALT4B sit above it in the range; all four are on the foil shavers shelf, and cleaning a shaver properly covers the rinsable head.

What people ask about this

Three blades or five — what changes?

The number of cutting elements passing over the skin in one stroke. More blades generally means fewer strokes, which is why the count climbs with the price across Panasonic's range. It is also why a five-blade shaver is a bigger head, which is not an advantage under the nose.

What are arc-shaped foils for?

Panasonic states they are shaped to fit under the chin, where a flat foil loses contact. It is a claim about geometry rather than performance, and it is the kind of detail a listing rarely bothers with.
