Where should a beard neckline sit?

Where the neck begins rather than along the jaw — a line set on the jaw makes the beard look detached, and one set too low disappears within days.

The usual guidance is a curve running roughly two fingers above the Adam’s apple, following the shape of the jaw rather than a straight horizontal line.

Setting it on the jawline itself removes the part of the beard that connects it to the face, which is why that mistake is so visible.

Practical points: do it with the guards off and last, when everything above it is finished; use the corner of the blade rather than the full width; and check both sides at eye level rather than in a tilted mirror.

Some trimmers include a detail trimmer that is narrower than the main blade, which is easier to control on a curve. Two of the four all-in-one kits here list one: the Philips MG7962 a narrow detail trimmer, and the Braun AIO7565 a precision head.
