A 25 mm (0.98 in) curling tong with a Sublim' Touch coating, ten heat settings between 230 and 356 °F (110–180 °C), an integrated stand, an insulated tip and a swivel cord. It is not listed on amazon.com.

Where it leaves us The gentlest published range here, with a stand and a swivel cord — and no price on amazon.com to read it against.

A 25 mm (0.98 in) barrel with what BaByliss calls a Sublim’ Touch coating, and ten heat settings the listing gives as 110 °C (230 °F) to 180 °C (356 °F), which is 230 °F to 356 °F — the lowest ceiling of any heated styling tool on this site.

The handling details are all there: an integrated stand so the hot barrel does not touch the worktop, an insulated tip to hold, a swivel cord, and an automatic shut-off.

What is not published is the heat-up time. BaByliss says it reaches temperature quickly and gives no figure, so that field is left empty here rather than estimated from another model in the range.

One figure sets this tong apart, and not in its favor: 356 °F is the lowest ceiling of any heated styling tool on this site. The Remington CI6325 reaches 428 °F, the five-head Remington kit 410, the 24K Gold waver 450. On fine or color-treated hair a low ceiling is an argument, and ten settings starting at 230 °F mean the bottom of the range is usable rather than nominal. On coarse hair it is simply a limit. The heat-up time is the second blank, and there is no listing on amazon.com either, so the price line stays empty — of the eight curling tools here, the four that can actually be bought are all American references.

The good points, and the rest

Strengths

  • The lowest maximum temperature of any styling tool on this site, at 180 °C (356 °F)
  • Ten settings from 110 °C (230 °F), which is lower than any straightener here reaches
  • An integrated stand and an insulated tip — one of only two tools here to publish an insulated end
  • A swivel cord, which is what stops a curling tong twisting into a knot

Compromises

  • BaByliss publishes no heat-up time for this model
  • A clamp tong rather than a wand, so it leaves a crease where it grips
  • No offer on the US market at the time of writing

What people ask about this

Why does a 180 °C (356 °F) maximum matter?

Because most tools in this category go to 210 or 230 °C (446 °F), and a tool cannot go below its lowest setting or above its highest. BaByliss itself advises a lower temperature for fine, bleached or colored hair in its own listings. Which setting suits your hair is a question for the manual and for a hairdresser — what this page reports is the range that exists.

Tong or wand?

This is a tong: it has a clamp that holds the end of the section for you, and leaves a small crease where it grips. A wand has no clamp, needs a heat-resistant glove, and leaves no crease. Both are on this site; they are two techniques, not two grades.
