Dyson

Two Airwraps: the cheaper one publishes its motor, speed and pressure, the dearer one none of it

Dyson appears twice on this site, in the air stylers category: the Airwrap Origin and the Airwrap i.d.. Same range, same brand, and two listings that publish very different things.

What the Origin publishes

Dyson gives the mechanism behind its own marketing term: the impeller and its 3.2 kPa of air pressure are, by Dyson’s account, what produces the Coanda effect, the airflow that draws hair onto the barrel. The listing also describes the cold shot as cutting the heater immediately, which is a description of how it works rather than a feature name.

What the i.d. does not publish

No motor, no speed, no pressure, no airflow and no temperature. Its listing describes app control and saved settings; that is what it sells, and that is all it puts a figure to.

Degrees, on neither

Neither Airwrap gives a temperature in degrees, where eleven of the twelve straighteners on this site publish at least a top temperature — among them the BaByliss ST393E and the Remington S3500 and S8540.

An accessory for the Airwrap

The Laymi diffuser lists the Airwrap HS08, HS05 and HS01 as compatible and excludes the Co-anda 2x (HS09). The i.d. is an HS08; the Origin, an HS02, is not on the list.

Every Dyson product we have reviewed

  • Dyson Airwrap i.d.

6-in-1 · app-enabled with a saved styling profile · no motor figures published

The app-enabled Airwrap: a personalized styling profile stored on the tool so wrap, style and cold-shot settings are recalled at a press. Six functions — and, unusually for Dyson, no motor or pressure figures on the listing.

Best for: Someone who already knows the Airwrap and wants their settings remembered.

    7.9/10

  • Dyson Airwrap Origin

    V9 motor, 110,000 rpm, 3.2 kPa · heat measured 40×/s · 3 attachments

The entry Airwrap: the Coanda effect driven by Dyson's V9 digital motor at 110,000 rpm and 3.2 kPa, with airflow temperature measured more than forty times a second, three intelligent attachments, three speeds and three temperatures.

Best for: The Coanda format from the company that engineered it, with the motor figures published.
