Seven products, linear motors, and compatibility lists written out in full

Panasonic is on this site seven times: a professional clipper, three foil shavers, a nose and ear trimmer and two replacement blades.

What we found writing the reviews

Linear motors, and the figure behind them. 39 000 cutting actions a minute on the Series 700, 70 000 on the Series 800. A linear motor is what stops a shaver or clipper bogging down in dense hair, and Panasonic states the rate rather than a marketing name.

The compatibility lists are complete. The Pro X taper blade names fifteen clipper references it fits, including the ER-DGP84 reviewed here. That is the only honest way to state compatibility on a clipper blade, and it is why this site can link the two pages together with confidence.

And it cuts both ways. The WER9930Y fading blade is stated for the ER-DGP86 — one digit away from our ER-DGP84, and not the same machine. Panasonic’s precision is what lets us say so; a vaguer listing would have left the temptation open.

The durability claim names a method. Panasonic states the Series 800 shaves as on the first day for five years, tested by comparing artificially aged shavers with new ones. It remains the maker testing its own product, and it is more than most durability claims disclose.

The nose trimmer is the only one here with a vacuum. It draws the clippings in rather than dropping them, on a head that washes under running water without removing the blade.

Where the listings go quiet. No runtime on the Series 700, none on the professional clipper, and the German listing for the ER-DGP84 is written in Dutch with four bullet points and no figures at all.

  • Panasonic ER-DGP84

    Linear motor · X-taper 2.0 blade · carbon-titanium coating · 6 markets

A professional-tier clipper built around a linear motor that Panasonic states holds its cutting speed regardless of hair density, and an X-taper 2.0 blade with a diamond-like carbon coating. The most expensive machine in this lot by a wide margin.

Best for: Cutting hair often, or cutting thick hair, where a motor that stalls is the reason to replace a machine.
