Because the maker expects you to already own a USB adapter. Four Philips tools here ship a USB-A cable with no wall plug, and three American trimmers ship USB-C instead — which is not the same cable.
What is published, and only what is published: on the Philips OneBlade QP2824, the Multigroom MG3946, the S3145 and the X3053, the listing states a USB-A cable and that the wall adapter is not included. Philips does not publish a reason on any of those four pages, and this page will not supply one on its behalf.
What it costs you in practice: nothing, if you own a phone charger. A USB-A cable needs a USB-A port, which is the rectangular one. Almost any 5 V adapter, laptop port or power bank will fill it, and the tool draws a small current — see whether a phone charger will do.
But check which USB you are getting, because the shelf is split. The four Philips tools are USB-A. Three trimmers on the nose and ear shelf publish USB-C: the Jeetif at $17, the MANSCAPED at $24 and the Dollar Shave Club at $29. Two more state USB without naming the connector.
That difference decides whether the cable in your drawer fits. USB-C is reversible and oval; USB-A is rectangular and only goes in one way. A USB-C tool with a USB-A adapter needs a C-to-A cable, which is normally what comes in the box — but if the cable is lost, the replacement has to match the tool’s socket, not the adapter’s.
Where a wall adapter is included, the listing says so. On the tools here it is the absence that gets stated, as an explicit line rather than an omission, which at least means you can check before ordering.
For the difference between a cable, an adapter and a round-pin power supply, see cable or adapter.
Check your own manual before you follow anything here. Temperatures, water ratings and supply voltages differ from model to model, and the maker’s own figures take precedence over anything written on this site. A supply of the wrong voltage is a failure rather than a slow charge, and the figure is printed on the tool — not inferred from a connector that happens to fit.
